Still Changing Perspectives with “New Horizons”

Just as expected, award winning artist Denis Brockie has done it again with his latest works in the upcoming exhibition, “New Horizons” – Paintings by Denis Brockie, opening Friday 2 January, 2015.

This will be the fifth solo exhibition on Straddie for the winner of the 2006 and 2009 d’Arcy Doyle Landscape Prize and the 2012 Stanthorpe Regional Art Prize.

Along with Brockie’s fabulous Straddie scenes, the exhibition will also include his signature abstracts, a new range of Granite Belt and Scenic Rim landscapes as well as works by nationally and internationally recognised wildlife sculptor, Maggie Brockie.

As described by retired Griffith University, Queensland College of Art Lecturer, Margaret Shields, “The abstracts are organic, elusive and intriguing; a luxuriant celebration of colour and form, without the usual restrictions form imposes.”

University of Melbourne, Art History, Senior Lecturer, Dr Anthony White describes,

“A respect for detail, a great skill in rendering that detail, a humility before nature, openness both to the landscape and the viewer’s experience – this is what makes Denis Brockie’s paintings breathtaking.”

Brockie has spent nearly 25 years observing the wonders of Straddie and other landscapes and his ability to truly capture its beauty transforms the perspectives of those who love the Island and art critics alike.

As Dr White explains, “…rather than confirming our fixed ways of seeing the beach, Brockie puts us in the position of seeing it for the first time.”

So if you are on Stradbroke Island in the first week of January, come visit “New Horizons” - paintings by Denis Brockie, and including works by Maggie Brockie, in the picturesque Headland Room of the Stradbroke Island Beach Hotel, Point Lookout, Friday 2 January to Saturday 10 January 2015 and enjoy the view, inside and out.

Those considering purchasing a painting or sculpture are encouraged to attend the opening at 5pm on Friday 2 January to avoid the disappointment of missing out. Acquisitions will be available for collection after 12 noon on Saturday 10 January.
