Denis' CV

Denis Brockie lives and works near Stanthorpe on Queensland’s Granite Belt. He was born in New Zealand (1947). After studying at Canterbury University School of Fine Arts (1965-69) he traveled widely, visiting the great art museums in the U.S.A, U.K and Europe.

He has lived in Australia since 1973 and worked as a signwriter for 20 years, including large-scale billboards and murals.

In 1988 he moved to North Stradbroke Island and started introducing coastal themes into his work. In 2000 Denis began receiving commissions for North Stradbroke Island landscape paintings and in 2004 he commenced full-time easel painting.

He held his first solo exhibition in 2005, since then he has held regular solo exhibitions and participated in many art awards and group exhibitions, in Australia and New Zealand. In 2006 and 2009  Denis won the d’Arcy Doyle Landscape Prize.

At the end of 2011 he moved from North Stradbroke back to Queensland’s Granite Belt and in early 2012 won the biannual Stanthorpe Art Festival Prize.

In 2015 Denis won the d’Arcy Doyle Landscape Prize for the third time, no one else has won twice.

Denis is now represented in more than 120 private collections throughout Australia and overseas.
